In 2014, my husband Corey and I trained to become foster parents. During a class at the Washington County DCS office, we learned that when children are removed from their homes, they often wait for placement in an office setting. I looked around at the cubicles and thought, “There has to be something better.” That moment planted the seed for what would become Isaiah 117 House.
A year later, we picked up our first foster child from the back door of a DCS office. He had nothing with him—dirty, in clothes too small. My heart broke. I knew children deserved more during such a traumatic time.
We began to ask: What if there was a home where children could go right after removal? A place with clean clothes, warm meals, soft beds, and loving volunteers? A space that offered dignity and comfort while caseworkers found the right placement?
Isaiah 1:17 says, “Defend the cause of the fatherless.” That’s exactly what we set out to do. In 2017, the dream became reality.
Isaiah 117 House provides safe, welcoming homes for children waiting for foster placement. Volunteers offer comfort and care during one of the hardest moments in a child’s life. These homes also support caseworkers and foster families, easing their burden.
Our mission:
• Reduce trauma for children awaiting placement
• Lighten the load for child welfare staff
• Ease transitions for foster families
