Senior Manufacturing Quality Engineer

Posted: 01/11/2026

JOB SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The Senior Manufacturing Quality Engineer plays a key role in developing and managing manufacturing quality systems. This position works closely with engineering and manufacturing to ensure that quality requirements, performance improvements, process controls, and compliance with quality assurance standards are clearly defined, implemented, and monitored.

The role requires a thorough understanding of CNC manufacturing processes, PC-DMIS Level 3 CMM programming experience, the ability to design and validate gauges, apply GD&T principles, and establish effective process monitoring tools.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • CMM/Metrology
    • Program, prove out, and optimize CMM routines in PC-DMIS; develop offline programs from CAD models and run complex alignments, best-fit, and iterative routines.
    • Establish probing strategies, feature constructions, and reporting that align with ASME Y14.5.
  • GD&T Leadership
    • Interpret and apply ASME Y14.5 to drive datum schemes that are manufacturable and inspectable.
    • Partner with Design, Manufacturing Engineering, and CNC Programming to convert prints into robust control plans and tolerance stack-ups.
  • Gage & Fixture Design
    • Design attribute and variable gages (go/no-go, functional gages, fixtures, custom nests); model in CAD and collaborate with vendors for build.
  • Process & Product Quality
    • Build/maintain Control Plans, FMEAs, FAI/PPAP packages.
    • Lead root cause and corrective action using 8D/A3/5-Why; reduce scrap, rework, and escapes with data-driven countermeasures.
    • Apply SPC and capability analysis (Cp/Cpk/Pp/Ppk) to milling/turning cells; set rational sampling frequencies and reaction plans.
  • Shop-Floor Enablement
    • Support CNC milling and lathe setups; align inspection to machining realities (tool wear, offsets, fixturing, thermal effects).
    • Coach operators/inspectors on, in-process checks, and safe handling of precision equipment.

Other Job Functions:

  • Communicator who can translate metrology for machinists and design engineers.
  • Decisive in MRB/escape scenarios.
  • Assist on cross-functional projects as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This role operates within a collaborative office setting with computer-based tasks and production floor involvement.

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION:

10+ years in manufacturing / precision metrology.

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or related engineering discipline.

PC-DMIS Level 3 training/certification with demonstrated expertise in complex routines and CAD model-based inspection.

Expert in GD&T (ASME Y14.5) with hands-on tolerance analysis and datum scheme development.

Understanding of CNC milling and lathes—capabilities, limitations, and how to design measurement around them.

Gage design experience (attribute/variable) includes Gage R&R and integration into control plans.

Proficiency with SPC collection and reporting; exposure to integration from inspection equipment to management dashboards.

CAD/CAM literacy (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, Mastercam) for design review and gage and fixture modeling.

Firearms Knowledge a plus.
