PAY: $19.50/hr
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for maintaining records of the Gallatin Department of Electricity’s customers, including collecting payments and balancing the cash drawer; processing applications for service; preparing service orders; entering customer information into the billing system; explaining customer billings; greeting customers and visitors; and providing assistance as necessary to customers and fellow employees.
This position is classified as **Non-Exempt** for purposes of the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position is subject to pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, promotion, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing.
The normal work schedule follows a 9/80 schedule, Monday through Friday, from 6:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch period and one scheduled day off during each two-week pay period.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
- Greet customers and visitors in a timely and friendly manner and determine their needs. Establish when they should be given access to other personnel.
- Demonstrate teamwork across all areas.
- Perform functions outlined in the CSR Training Book based on the employee’s level in the training program.
- Keep the work area neat, organized, and free from clutter.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

DETAILS OF WORK TO BE PERFORMED
Approximately 75% of the time is spent in contact with customers while performing the items listed under “Essential Functions.” This position requires considerable tact, courtesy, and diplomacy when dealing with others. Unpleasant social settings, including interactions with irate or unpleasant individuals, may occur.
Accuracy in many areas will be closely monitored, including collecting and balancing cash, processing applications for service, entering and checking customer information in the billing system, and other related duties. Employees must be able to work effectively under time pressures, distractions, and other disturbances.
SUPERVISION
Reports to the Customer Service Supervisor. This position does not require supervision of others.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a professional office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets, and scanners. Occasional travel may be required for training purposes.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Previous cashier and customer service experience, such as banking, utility, or related work, is desirable.
