"Dunking for Dementia" on Aug. 15 to raise funds for The Veranda local respite care program
Twelve local community members are preparing themselves to be dunked in water during the fourth "Dunking for Dementia" event benefiting The Veranda, the flagship program of Veranda Ministries. The event begins at 9 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 15 at The Veranda, located at 650 Nashville Pike in Gallatin, and is part of the celebration marking the organization's eighth anniversary. Cost is $5 per throw. An outreach supported by Impact Fellowship Church in Gallatin, The Veranda is a respite activity program that helps meet the needs of senior adults and their families who are affected by Alzheimer’s Disease, dementia and other issues of the aging process. Activities are provided a few hours a day, three days a week to allow families much-needed respite time to take care of other family needs.

Guests may enjoy lunch while watching the dunking booth fun. Lunch is $10 per person, includes two hot dogs, chips, gourmet cookie and drink; available first-come, first-serve. Event supporters Sumner Funeral and Cremation, The Hearth, Simonis Productions, HighPoint Hospice, Family Legacy Middle TN, Preferred Care at Home, Mike Huckabee Show, Fagan Rehabilitation and Gallatin Chamber of Commerce.
“Our goal for this year’s event is to be a fun opportunity for people to get outside, enjoy some fresh airand help support our respite program. COVID-19 precautions will be implemented, and safe distancing will be practiced for the well-being of all event attendees,” Mary Anne Oglesby-Sutherly, executive director of Veranda Ministries, said. “Everyone had such a great time when we last held Dunking for Dementia last year to help The Veranda serve its families. I can’t thank the ones who are going to be dunked this year enough for volunteering their time to help raise money to support our activity program,” she said. “We’re looking forward to a fun-filled day.”
