What is the Citizen?s Police Academy?
The Academy provides community members with an inside look at local law enforcement. The purpose is to increase understanding between citizens and local law enforcement through education and interaction with members of the Police Department. It is our hope that the instruction will increase police awareness and community support through this education.
Who can attend?
Anyone over the age of 21 and resides in the City of Gallatin may participate. Attendees are selected by the Crime Prevention Unit and the Training Unit after an application is received. Class is limited to 20 and the applicant must pass a background check. The classes are instructed by members of the Police Department. Topics will include; Search and Seizure, Use of Force, Domestic Violence, Flex, K-9 and Special Operations, Criminal Investigations, Evidence collection and other related topics. During the length of the course, students will also have the opportunity to ride along with a patrol officer during their shift.
Applications are available to the front desk in the PD lobby and at the Records Unit service window. You will be notified by phone upon acceptance.
