Black Jar Honey Contest Rules & Information:
Do your bees make the best-tasting honey?
If yes, enter it in our 1st “Black-Jar” Honey Contest!
-Taste is the only thing that matters in this competition
-The honey must have been produced locally (within 50 miles of Gallatin, TN) by the entrant—either individually or as part of a family, business, or another group project that the entrant represents.
-Only 1 entry is allowed per individual, family, business, or other group project.
-A 12 to 16 oz bottle of honey must be submitted in a squeezable container with a flip-top lid. The flip-top lid is a FIRM REQUIREMENT because the honey will be squeezed out onto the Judges’ tasting spoon without opening the lid. Classic containers are preferred, but honey bears are also acceptable. Larger or oddly-shaped containers will not be accepted.
-No identifying markings should be on the container for judging.
-Honey entries will be accepted on Friday, June 24th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm and Saturday, June 25th from 8:00 to 10:00 am at the Registration table at the Gallatin Farmers Market, 160 W Franklin Street, Gallatin, TN 37066. Containers will be assigned random identification numbers.
-Judging will begin at NOON on Saturday, June 25th. There will be 3 judges that will judge the entrants honey. Judges to be determined. There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Winners will be announced in person and on the Gallatin Farmers Market Facebook page.
-Any honey not consumed may be picked up on Saturday, July 2nd during normal Farmers Market business hours, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
-Rules are subject to change. For example, it may become necessary to limit the number of entries due to the size constraints of the judging area (to be determined at a later date).
